High School Principal's Welcome
It’s a great day to be a Richland Colt! Our building has an incredible group of 7th – 12th grade students with a staff that loves to educate this great group of young people. With a focus on strong academics, high involvement in extracurriculars, and a love of the community, Richland Jr/Sr HS is a wonderful place to develop well-rounded young people. We have a full-time counselor, 11 teachers, and four paraprofessional staff members.
This year we have implemented some changes to our daily schedule. We took away study halls because there is little research to indicate its impact on student achievement and development; instead, all 7th-10th graders will have a reading class and upperclassmen will be able to choose an additional elective. This year we are implementing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) in order to provide high quality instruction to all students while providing interventions for students who are struggling in reading. Finally, our flex time (3:07-3:30) is no longer required for high school students (grades 9-12) as long as they are passing all classing and not missing any major assignments. This list will be reviewed each Monday.
Our students are involved in so many wonderful activities and organizations including athletics, speech and debate, music competitions and show, clubs (FFA, FCCLA, Gaming & Coding, Yearbook, student newspaper and Student Council), and community service projects. We take pride in providing as many opportunities as students want to take part in and helping develop them as leaders and good people.
We look forward to communicating with families throughout this school year and making it the most fun and enjoyable yet. Go Colts!
