Good Afternoon Richland #44,
As you may know, earlier today the governor moved Richland County to the yellow COVID-19 risk level, which is considered moderate risk. Despite this change to our county, at this time Richland #44 School District will remain in Plan A: In-Person Instruction. The reason for us choosing not to change tier levels is a) we have preventative measures in place for health and safety and 2) we have had 0 positive cases in our buildings. I want to thank our students and staff for following these new preventative measures and to our families for your support. We couldn’t do it without you!
The county color is meant primarily for the community and businesses; a county having a high positivity rate does not mean that a school district’s boundaries also have a high positivity rate.
School districts have the authority to determine which phase they are in and are required to have preventative measures in place. In our school district, the decision to move phases is made by the administration and school board president in consultation with the county health department.
Richland #44 Phased Approach
Please reach out to me with questions about this decision, the Smart Restart plan, or anything at all. I have appreciated the questions and comments I’ve received through this process and welcome them.
